
Sailing Holidays in Gytheiou Harbor
Harbor Gytheíou, the principal port of Lakonikós gulf, consists of a natural harbor and an anchorage on the outside. Inland from the harbor Gýtheio town is situated, which is the capital of the namesake region of the prefecture of Lakonía and the seaport of Spárti, which is the capital of the prefecture. To the W of Gýtheio town rises hill Larísios, with ruins of the ancient town on it.
The harbor is open NE and is protected from the E by a curved mole that extends almost N for 200 m and continues NNE for 165 m. At the head of the mole stands a light. The NW and W sides of the mole are quayed. The NW side has depths of 7.7 m and is used by ferries. The W side has depths of 3.2–5.3 m; depths near the root are less than 2 m.
