Cala dello Scalo, 0. 6 mile NNE of Punta di Cala Sirocco, is the principal landing place for the island, partly sheltered by a mole, from which a light (red metal column, 4 m in height) (43°25′8N, 9°54′4E) is exhibited. The inner part of the mole is lined with a quay and in good weather small craft can berth alongside. Torre Nuova, high on the N side of the bay, is a tall brick building which houses most of the convicts.
