The small town of Vieste, is situated on the NE side of Promontorio del Gargano about 20 miles NE of Manfredonia. The harbour is situated on the N side of the town W of Punta San Croce and is used by coasters and fishing vessels whose maximum size is 30 m in length and 2. 5 m in draught. Temporary anchorage may be obtained off the beach S of Punta San Francesco in 10 to 12 m, hard mud, sheltered only from W winds. In offshore winds a recommended berth is about 750 m ESE of Isola Santa Eufemia in about 11 m, or farther offshore as appropriate to size.
