Brindisi is a large commercial and industrial city lying in a small bay on the NE coast of the heel of Italy, in the S part of the Adriatic Sea, about 33 miles ENE of Taranto. There are two designated anchorage areas as follows: South-east, centred 5 miles E of Capo di Torre Cavallo (40°38′⋅5N 18°01′⋅3E) in depths of 34 to 46 m. North-west, centred 2. 5 miles WNW of Punta Penne (40°41′⋅0N 17°56′⋅2E) in depths of 21 to 51m. For use by small and medium sized vessels, excluding those carrying dangerous or pollutant cargoes. A transhipment area has been established, centred about 5. 75 miles SE of Capo di Torre Cavallo.
