Porto di Cortellazzo lies at the mouth of Fiume Piave which communicates with Venezia and the inland lagoons by various channels. Canale Cavetta which branches W about 0. 6 mile within the mouth, connects with Fiume Sile at Jesolo. Canale Revedoli, which branches NE about 1 mile within the mouth affords access to Caorle. Fiume Piave is navigable by small craft for about 14 miles above the mouth but is subject to violent flooding during which the stream is rapid. Local knowledge is required both to enter and navigate the river. The river water is white and milky which at times gives the appearance that a beach lies off the mouth.
