The village of Atrani lies on the NE side of the steep rocky buttress on the E side of Amalfi on which stands Torre dello Zirro. Capo d’Atrani, the extremity of the headland, is a high plateau. The village is built in a deep defile at the mouth of a valley. Within the lower part of the village a viaduct with eight arches crosses the beach, above it the village rises in steep terraces. With local knowledge anchorage can be obtained in depths of about 15 m, clear of the breakwater.
