Amantea standing partly on a plain and partly on a hill. A round tower, standing on the hill, overlooks the town but is only visible from the NW. A stone embankment with a large arch stands below the town. A cemetery on a hillside close S of the town is easily seen from seaward. Marina di Amantea, a coastal village W of the town, can be identified by a tall factory chimney and a slender spire in the S part of the village. With local knowledge anchorage can be obtained close inshore in depths of about 8 m, sand, good holding ground, off Marina di Amantea. Mariners should beware of a prohibited anchorage area enclosing a current meter.
