Sailing Holidays in Volos Harbor
The port of Vólos is a well-sheltered artificial port situated at the head of the homonymous bay. The port is the third largest port in Greece (after Peiraiás and Thessaloníki) and it is the only important port in Thessalía.
It is protected from the southeast by a curved breakwater that starts 15 meters offshore the northeastern limit of the port; it first extends to the southwest for 180 meters and then it turns west-southwest and extends for 780 meters. At the head of the breakwater, which is also the northeastern limit of the port’s entrance, a light operates.
The 5-meter contor is located up to 10 meters offshore the inner side of the outer (southwest) part of the breakwater. In the inner part of the port the 10-meter contor is located at a distance of 150 meters offshore and in parallel to the eastern side of pier I (customs or silo).
East of the contor, in the eastern part of the port, the depths are 8 meters and they decrease to 5 meters or less in the northeastern part of the port. West of the contor, in the west part of the port, the depths are equal up to 530 meters offshore the west part of the port and up to 340 meters offshore its south part.
