Sailing Holidays in Dirfys-Messapia
Psachna is the main city of the municipality Dirfys-Messapia and is only 16 km from Chalkida at an altitude of 20m. In Psachna, it is worth visiting the monastery of Panagia, the Monastery of St. John the Kalivitis and the chapel of the Life-Giving Spring. During the summer there are many cultural events, the most important being the Messapeia cultural week in early July.
You may also visit the villages of Agia Triada, Attalos and Platania. Steni, part of the municipality Dirfys-Messapia, is one of the most famous winter resorts in Greece and one of the most picturesque villages of Evia. It is situated on the outskirts of Dirfys, the tallest mountain in Evia, 30 km from Chalkida. Inside the paved square, at the center of the village, there are picturesque fountains with flowing waters. Many large trees spread their shade over the small traditional cafes and taverns.
In the forest of Steni there are many impressive paths. Politika is the most touristic area of the municipality and is located 2 km from the shores of the Euboean Gulf. In the center of the village, the picturesque square is surrounded by beautiful stone houses, huge trees, fountains with running water and picturesque cobbled streets. A few meters away from the main square, a well preserved 13th-century medieval tower stands.
In its shadow, there is the historic church of the Transfiguration, celebrated on August 6. North of the village, in a magnificent location which is surrounded by pine trees and springs, there is the picturesque church of St. Panteleimon. At the Port of Politika is the beach, a vast and clean coast, ideal for young children but also for the more adventurous water sports enthusiasts.
