Ilida is in northwestern Elis, the seat of the municipality is in Amaliada which is located 19 km northwest from Pyrgos. It is situated in the center of a fertile plain and extends up to the coasts of the Ionian Sea. It is the second largest city in the prefecture and the fourth largest in Western Greece.

It is a modern city with significant commercial and cultural activity. Due to its unique geographical position -surrounded by the mountains of Peloponnese and very close to the coastline- visitors can enjoy the beautiful landscape and explore many beaches during their holidays.

Amaliada offers visitors a lot of sport activities, such as, canoeing and kayaking at Pinios River during the entire year. Among the city's museums, those of particular interest are the Public Folk Museum, the Nikos Beloyannis Museum of Greek National Resistance, and the Tatani Museum.
