Sailing Holidays in Amfilochia

Amfilochia is a town and a municipality in the northwestern part of Aetolia-Acarnania, on the site of ancient Amfilochia. The town of Amfilochia is amphitheatrically built between two hills in the creek of Amvrakikos Gulf, a small but beautiful town also known as the Bride of Amvrakikos.

The first thing to notice is the architectural style of the town. It has a lot of narrow and picturesque streets that take the visitor back to old times as he walks amongst buildings that have been standing there for over 100 years. Hewn stone and roof tiles dominate the neighborhoods of Amfilochia. Wherever you look, you will enjoy the magnificent scenery of the blue sea and the lush nature.

During the Ottoman period it was known as Karvasaras, a name that originated from the turkish words “Caravan – Serai” which means caravan station, while only on 1908 it was named Amfilochia. The ancient acropolis of Limnea is worth visiting, in the southeast side of the town, and in a distance of only 2 kilometers from the center.
