The old town of Rhodes is one of the largest medieval towns in Europe. In the town there are fascinating medieval fortress-like buildings, the bastions, walls, gates, narrow alleys, minarets, old houses, fountains, tranquil and busy squares. The most interesting building of the old town is the Palace of the Grand Master. It was originally built at the end of the 7th century.In the Lower Town, Gothic architecture coexists with mosques, public baths and other buildings dating back to the Ottoman period.
