The Apollo Municipal theater of Ermoupolis was built in 1864. It is located on Miaouli square, in the center of Ermoupoulis, and is a miniature replica of La Scala in Milan. It is made of white marble and limestone and has two floors. It also has many beautiful wall paintings. The building was completely destroyed by the Germans. Today the Apollo Municipal Theatre hosts some of the most important events that take place in Syros, such as, the Festival of the Aegean.
