The Prehistoric Thera Museum, located in Fira, is an amazing building, offering visitors a comfortable tour. In the museum visitors learn about the history and geologyof Thera and see findings from the Neolithic period. The findings of Akrotiri are kept in the museum. The excavations at Akrotiri area revealed the center of the ancient world which had hidden in the Aegean Sea 3,600 years ago.

The ancient city was destroyed due to the volcanic eruption and buried under the pumice. However, a great part of items like vessels and wall paintings were conserved under the pumice in a great condition. All the objects of the museum have descriptions, providing visitors all the information they need.
