The Castle of Chora of Naxos was built in 1207 by the Venetians, and is the most renowned medieval monument of Naxos. In the castle there are many medieval buildings, such as the boarding school of Ursulines and the School of Commerce. There is also the Catholic Cathedral and the tower of Krispi.

Around the castle there are wonderful mansions of Catholic descendants, which are inhabited. Each one of these mansions has its own story and legend. One of the old mansions is open to the public as a museum of the Venetian era. Exhibitions and musical evenings are also held here. In the narrow streets of the castle area, there are all kinds of shops, cafes and taverns.
