At the beginning of the old town of Rethymno an imposing Venetian fortress, known as Fortezza, is standing. Fortezza is the most important monument in Rethymno and it was built in the late 16th century. The visitor enters Fortezza through the magnificent eastern (main) gate and is led, via a gallery, to its interior to face some masterpieces and imposing creations. Also the view from Fortezza is breathtaking and is perfect for a view of the beautiful sunrise.
