The villages of the mountainous Malevizi in Heraklion extend in the eastern foot of Mount Psiloritis and the two large villages, Krousonas and Tylisos, keep the economic and trading life of the area. The region is one step from the plains of Heraklion, with its fertile farmland in the mountainous area of Mount Psiloritis.

Small streams originate from the eastern edge of the mountain to reach the north coast, stopping over the low hills of the valley. On their exit from the mountains, they form successive canyons, ancient paths for the sacred mountain.
