Panagia Arkoudiotissa Cave or Arkoudospilios (Bear Cave) is located about 2 kilometers north of famous Gouverneto Monastery. The cave is famous for a stalagmite that looks like a crouching bear, and hence the name of the cave Arkoudospilios. According to local legend, a bear lived in the cave and drank the water dripping from the stalactites.

The monks, who were suffering from thirst, prayed to the Virgin for helping them. The Virgin heard their prayers and turned the bear into stone In the cave, there is a little church dedicated to the Presentation of Christ in the Temple.
