Kali on the island of Ugljan is the biggest settlement on the islands of the Zadar archipelago. The settlement is located on a hill on the northeast with a view on Zadar. It has been mentioned in history for the first time in the year 1299. Some of the more important landmarks are the Church of St- Laurus that dates back to the 15th century and Church of St. Pelegrinus from the 14th century. The inhabitants of Kali are mostly engaged in agriculture - olive cultivation, fishing and tourism as their main economic branch. Throughout the history Kali has also been known as a settlement with the best Adriatic fishermen and they were especially skilled in tuna fishing. The surrounding nature is almost untouched, with gravely and sandy beaches. Like all the settlements in the vicinity, Kali has traditional annual fishermen nights where local population along with visitors enjoy entertainment that lasts until the early morning hours. Every year Kali also marks the 10th of August as the Day of St. Laurus. The settlement has a rich gastronomic offer out of which the fish specialities (fish, shell fish, shrimp and lobsters) are at the forefront, followed by lamb, Dalmatian prosciutto, cheese, anchovies and domestic wine. Adventure seekers will be pleased to hear that Kali is located in the vicinity of Kornati national park, famous for the large number of islands and isles suitable for wishing and Robinson tourism. Next to the national park lies the Telascica nature park, and National park Krka with Skradinski buk and Roski slap famous for its tuff and endemic species of fauna and flora is also in the vicinity. Vransko jezero nature park is located on the opposite side of Ugljan on the mainland and has its own natural bird habitat. Cyclists, in need of a more active vacation can drive along the 40km long cycling route that goes around the lake. Except for cycling you can go mountain hiking on Velebit or rafting on Zrmanja river and you will have access to numerous tennis, soccer, basketball courts and other sports. Kali has a large number of apartments, restaurants, taverns, discotheques and night bars and is therefore suitable for all types of entertainment.
