Sailing Holidays in Sidrište Omiš
Sidrište Omiš (43°26′N 16°41′E) is entered between Dugi rat and Uvala Mala Luka, about 3¼ miles ESE. The town and port of Omiš is situated on the E bank of the mouth of Rijeka Cetina and at the foot of a mountain 311 m high on the summit of which are the ruins of fortifications. The town is surrounded by trees and cultivated land. The deep gorge through which Rijeka Cetina approaches the sea is conspicuous from seaward.
Rijeka Cetina, which enters the sea close W of Omiš, is one of the most important rivers in Croatia and is navigable by for some distance inland. The bar at the mouth of the river, over which there is a depth of about 1 m, is liable to change, and entry requires local knowledge.
Ravnice, where there is a quay, chimney, and factory buildings, is situated about 1 mile SE of Omiš.
The NW side of the roadstead is bordered by a steep-to sandbank formed by the deposits from Rijeka Cetina. In places, it extends 0. 4 miles offshore and has depths of 1 m over its outer edge. Yachts visiting Omis have the option either of tying up alongside on the river or anchoring off in the bay. The river has the advantage of providing better shelter, although depths are less reliable (the deeper water is usually to be found on the E side). The most sheltered spot is just downstream of the low road bridge. There are no facilities on the riverside quays. Alternatively, anchor off to the E of the spit in depths of 4. 0 - 5. 0 metres. The holding is good in sand. Shelter here is reasonably good in the prevailing winds, but poor in W or S winds, when the river offers better shelter (as long as you can get a fair way upstream). Neither position is comfortable in a strong bora, when Split or Brac offer better protection.
There is also a small harbour at the head of the bay E of the river entrance. On the NW side depths are shallow and it is usually filled with local boats. On the SE side of the pier bigger tourist boots moor. If there is space, yachts are also allowed. Depths are around 3. 0 metres.
