According to historic evidence, the Tempi valley was formed after a strong earthquake which cut the mountains of the plain. There is a small bridge there that leads to the lovely chapel of Agia Paraskevi. The municipality is rich in history and culture, with picturesque traditional small villages. Among of them are Ampelakia, Gonnoi, Makrychori and Kato Olympos.
Ampelakia is a village located 25 kilometers north east of the city of Larissa. It is built on the slopes of Mount Kissavos and it is full of mansions, proof of a wealthy past. It was in Ampelakia that the first co-op in the world was established, exporting yarns naturally died red with the colors of a herb, called rizari.
Visit the hotels, the restaurants and the little shops in the village, where everyone is spending time in the square, all covered by the branches of the old plane trees. Hike along a 3 kilometer long path to a location called Prophet Elias from where we enjoy the view of Tempi valley.
Navigational Aids
The wineries of Tirnavos are famous all over the world for their traditional products, mostly tsipouro and ouzo. The tsipouro of Tirnavos is a protected designated product.
A sandy beach following Mesagkala beach whose sand is considered therapeutic for orthopedic diseases. Very near the beach you will find taverns, cafes, etc.
