The Monastery of Agios Raphael was built in 1963 on the ruins of previous monasteries. It is located near village Thermi, on the hill Karies. In the monastery the skulls of three Saints are kept;, Raphael, Nicholaos and Irene who were tortured in the hands of Turks and their bones were found by believers.The Monastery of Saint Raphael has become a cultural center and a spiritual cell for thousand of pilgrims, asking for miraculous cures.Today this brilliant monastic complex consists of: the main church, the Cathedral of the Holy Monastery in honor of Saint Raphael, two wings of cells, 30 cells with auxiliary spaces, a large hall, two hostels and gallery exhibiting works of Greek painters.
Navigational Aids
There is an 80-meter-long pier at the northeast of the bay of Mystegna, which is set to the southeast. The pier’s outer side consists of natural rocks and mooring is impossible.
The entrance of the small port formed between the port’s north and south mole and is set to the southeast. There is a quay at the southern part of the port, with a small pier located at the quay’s eastern part.
Kanoni is located near the village of Thermi and characterized by its crystal clear waters and small pebbles. This beach is ideal for intense swimming.
