Vathy is the capital and the main harbor of Ithaca. The picturesque village is the largest of the island and is built amphitheatrically around a deep and sheltered bay. Today it has 2000 inhabitants.Some of the many interesting sights of Vathy are the houses of G. Karavias and G. Drakoulis ( two of the wealthiest families of Vathy), the churches of Saint George, the fine restored cathedral dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin, the Archaeological Museum that hosts collections from the Geometric period, the Mycenaean and the Corinthian periods, and the house where the Greek hero Odysseas Androutsos was born.There is a yachting service station for refueling and super markets that provide visitors whatever they need. Vathy offers a moderate mountain biking trip to Kaminia beach.
Vathi or Vathy is the main harbor of Ithaca and lies at the head of a long inlet on the East coast, four miles south of Kioni and five miles south of Frikes. It is a popular destination for yachts of all sizes during the season, as it provides a number of berthing opportunities as well as good anchorage off the town.
