Sailing Holidays in
Chalki
Let explore the Sailing Holidays area...
Halki is a small island of Dodecanese, very close to Rhodes with neoclassical houses built amphitheatrically around the port of Nimporios -the only part of the island still inhabited. Tourism is not much developed.
While visiting the island, take long walks and discover some of the more than 360 country chapels, the remnants of the medieval castle and Chorio, the island's ancient capital, which lies at the foot of the castle. Its name originates from the copper [halkos in Greek] mines that used to exist in the island.
Since 1983, Chalki has been nominated as the Island of Peace and Friendship among peoples and for many years now is hosting annual meetings of youth.
Navigational Aids
One of the most deserted beautiful, beaches on the island of Chalki. Not to be missed for its crystal clear waters - a snorkellers paradise.
A sublime and very clean pebbled beach with lots of rocky coves for those who desire some solitude. Ftenagia is located behind the hotel and the small chapel of "Agia Aekaterini" (Saint Catherine).
Kania is a small pebbled beach accessible by bus, taxi or private means. This beach is also reachable from Nimporio within a 30 minutes walk.
Pontamos, the only sandy beach, is 10 minutes walk from Emborio, up the concrete road, over the ridge into the next bay. It has a tavern, a cantina, and sun-beds with umbrellas for hire.
