The Ionian Sea is an elongated embayment of the Mediterranean Sea, south of the Adriatic Sea which separates Greece and Italy. Its waters are calm, clear and still, sheltered from the prevailing northeastern winds of the summer by the bulk of the Greek mainland.

It has seven main islands - Corfu, Paxos, Lefkas, Ithaca, Cephalonia, Zakynthos, and the distant island of Cythera off the south coast of the Peloponnese. These islands are often called Eptanissa in Greek. There are also dozens of smaller islands, many of which inhabited seasonally.

The Ionian Sea has always held an irresistible fascination for seafarers and it is easy to see why. Set in crystal-clear waters, dozens of islands extend from uninhabited sand beaches to forested mountains rearing high out of the Ionian Sea.

Apart from discovering superb beaches, hidden caves and several uninhabited islets, you will have the opportunity to walk amongst olive groves in the islands’ interior or relax in picturesque tiny fish ports tasting local delicacies and fresh fish brought by fishermen daily to the jetties.
