Spetses, an island boasting a long naval tradition, is famous for its significant contribution to the 1821 War of Independence. It was here that the revolution flag was raised in April 3, 1821. The island has managed to retain its individual traditional character thanks to its well-preserved grand captain mansions, still bearing eloquent witness to the island’s glorious past.

The picturesque old harbor and Dápia, a tourist and commercial center where the heart of the island’s entertainment beats, are the trademarks of the town of Spetses. Take a romantic trip around the island in horse-drawn carriages and admire the grand mansions adorning the narrow cobbled streets of the island. The best time to visit Spetses is during September, when “Armata”, a truly impressive re-enactment of a naval battle takes place since 1931.

The rich history and naval tradition of the island are reflected on numerous sites that are definitely worth visiting. At the beaches, apart from swimming and fishing, the visitor may engage in sea sports and activities such as water skiing, canoe, wind surfing, wakeboard, tubes, banana, water bicycle, daily cruises, free diving and others.

Those who love hiking or cycling can meet the beautiful beaches of Spetses through the peripheral parallel to the shores- road or the backland with the plantation of pines and the church going uphill towards Prophet Elias, the highest top of the island.

Other choices are the circumnavigation of Spetses and of Spetsopoula, as well as the visit to the neighboring islands of Hydra and Poros but also to Argolida. Those who have a sailing ship or power boat can approach and supply at the Old Port or in Dapia.
