The inevitable magnet of the central province of Stereá Elládha is Delphi, a World Heritage Place by UNESCO, 175km northwest of Athens. It is easy to understand why the ancients considered Delphi the Navel of the World, especially given their penchant for awe-inspiring sacred spots.

Framed on all sides by the soaring crags of Parnassós, the site truly captures the imagination, especially in spring, when wildflowers cloak the precipitous valley. But more than a stunning setting was needed to confirm the divine presence. Sanctity, according to Plutarch, was confirmed through the discovery of a rock chasm that exuded strange vapors and reduced supplicants to incoherent – and undoubtedly prophetic – mutterings.

The city of Delphi is the modern residential area and the evolutional transformation of the so famous ancient Delphi Oracle. The official excavations of 1893 that led to the abandonment of the old village of Kastri (a settlement located exactly where the ruins exist today) brought the ruins of the Oracle into light. The new City of Delphi was relocated to its present area, just a few hundred meters from the archaeological sites.

At an altitude of 550m on the slopes of mount Parnassos, Delphi is an important cultural, recreation and athletic center providing a high level of hospitality services. Its magic view is just a part of the so called Delphico Topio (Delphic Landscape) protected under law.
