Anchorage in the bay can be obtained only in the north part of the head where the depths reach 20 meters. Small boats can obtain anchorage near the rocky shores of the bay in depths of 5 to 8 meters, securing their sterns with a line to the shores as the bay is affected by strong northeast and southeast winds.

Navigational Aids
The harbor is protected by a 32-meter-long mole of southwest direction. On the outer side of the mole protective boulders have been placed and the inner side is quayed.
The small sandy beach of Mourtias is not organized, but the sea is spotless. Sand and impressive rocks compose the setting of beach that is beautiful and wild with serene waters.
The beaches are found in front and very near the coastal village, 46 km from Volos and 3 km from Milina and Argalasti. It is a village with impressive natural beauty, drowned in the olive tree groves that reach up to the sea.

Beach with coarse (chondri) sand, hence the name! Roughly 10 km from Lafkos and the bight that many fishermen live. It is said that this is the bight where the remaining boats of Xerxes’ fleet resorted after they defeated Greeks at cape Artemisio of North Evia in 480 B.
