The south port of Chalkída lies right to the northwest of channel Stenó. It is a closed, circular basin, which can be entered from south, through channel Stenó, and from north, through the narrows of the strait of Évripos. This is the main port where the entire trading activity takes place.
The port has a quay 580 meters long. The depths near the quay from south to north for the first 240 meters are 6.7 meters, 5.4 meters for the next 190 meters and 6 meters for the remaining 152 meters. A rocky projection with a depth of 6.6 meters above it is located 120 meters west of the jetty.

The fishing shelter of Kourentí is formed on the northeastern shores of the cove, east of cape Tekés, while its entrance is facing west. A mole that extends to southwest for approximately 35 meters protects the northwest part of the fishing shelter.
