Navigational Aids
The small port is open to the southwest and covered from the west by a small peninsula of south direction, which is 300 meters long and ends up at cape Néos Marmarás. The opening of the entrance is 200 meters and its penetration to the north is 300 meters.
The small port of Ouranoúpolis is located near cape Pýrgos, in front of the settlement Ouranoúpolis (960 residents). A mole extending to the west for 78 meters protects the small port from south winds.
The small port is protected by a windward curved mole which extends to the north-northwest for 120 meters and on its head a light operates. The depths near the sides of the mole are 3 meters, which decrease normally towards its base.
Port Koufó is a natural port, with irregular shape, and it consists of three smaller coves. It is open to the southwest.
The small port (marina) Karrá (Pórto Karrá) is formed in the southern part of the sandy beach of the bay of Néos Marmarás. It is an artificial port, suitable for tourist crafts.
Small islet opposite Neos Marmaras whose name Kelyfos Chelona (turtle shell) explains its shape--that of a turtle! Here the only residents are wild goats and gulls! However, it is worth swimming in the light blue waters of this unique beach. Accessible only by yacht.
The coast Aretes is a sandy beach with thick sand deeply penetrating into the sea when there is ebb. It is a big beach 60 meters in width and 600 meters in length with spotless waters in a green all around natural environment.
