The small resort of Tsonia lies at the northern end of the bay of Neos Limin just south of Cape Ferros at the NE tip of the island. Anchor off the beach in 5.0 - 6.0 meters. Good holding in sand and weed. Shelter here is good from the prevailing winds but the anchorage is uncomfortable with anything East in the wind. Occasional swell from passing ships but not bothersome. Danger: Be sure to avoid the dangerous rocky patch which lies 50 metres S of the small island in the bay.
Mytilini Marina is situated on a strategic location for sailing just opposite the Turkish coast at the northeast part of Mytilini's city, the capital of Lesvos island. It is a sheltered port of call or permanent base for yachts cruising the northern Aegean.
On the southern coast of Lesvos, Plomari, the ouzo capital of Greece, is built amphitheatrically near the sea and is the second largest town in the island after Mytilini. This is where the famous Barbayiannis Ouzo comes from as well as several other smaller labels like the excellent Ouzo Giannatsi, both distilled in the traditional method.
The north part of the beach is characterized by crystal clear, shallow waters and fine sand. The other side (south of the port) the morphology of the sea-floor changed completely: there are thick quite clearly pebbles with unique colors.
