Minies beach consists of three sandy beacheswith a few pebbles, found 7 km south of Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia. The first beach is covered with grey sand and there is a cantine is the only thing available here for the visitors. The second beach is much preferred by the fishermen without any tourist facilities while the third one is much more peaceful. Right opposite is the tiny islet of Vardaini.
Navigational Aids
Harbor Argostolíou is on the SW coasts of the namesake bay. The coasts of the harbor are quayed for about 1,425 m NW of the stone bridge at the head of the gulf, which separates it from lagoon Koútavos, and have depths of less than 2.
It is one of the most important monuments of Kefalonia. It was built in 19th century and is 8 metres tall.
A small harbor is located N of harbor Lixouríou, with a width of about 100 m. The small harbor is protected from waves caused by winds from between S and NE by a breakwater of natural boulders, 340 m in length, and by a curved windward breakwater, 200 m in length, which extends NE.
Argostoli Marina has been built opposite the main harbor of Argostoli, south of the power station. Its entrance is open west and has a width of about 50 m.
The Municipal theater Kefalos of Kefalonia is located in Argostoli, between the main square and the famous street Plakostroto. It was built in 1857, while Kefalonia was under British rule and it was bombed in 1943 during World War II.
The Monastery of Saint Gerasimos, situated on the plateau of Omala, is the largest religious monument in Kefalonia. Saint Gerasimos is the patron saint of the island who has built the monastery himself.
Lithostroto is at the heart of the town of Argostoli. It is basically the historical street which was destroyed from the earthquake of 1983 and rebuilt today, becoming the most commercial and secular street of town.
Immediately N of cape Ágios Sózon there is a NE-facing small harbor, with an entrance opening of about 20 m, which is protected by waves caused by S winds by a windward breakwater, which extends NE for about 50 m. Its outer side is made of natural boulders and the inner side is quayed.
Platis Yialos is located right next to Makris Gialos and is quite known for its unspoiled beauty. It consists of white sand and crystalline waters.
At the end of the village of Kalligata Livathos, a red sand beach is divided in two by striking a rock. The water is relatively shallow and is ideal for children.
Xi beach is definitely one of the most famous beaches in Kefalonia characterized by its white rocky hills that surround the beach and the reddish brown sand. It is a long drive from Argostoli about 40km and 10 km from Lixouri.
Megas Lakos, this delightful beach is located 35 km from Argostoli, the lovely town of Kefalonia. The beach is noticeably different and distinguishes for its red soft sand and the shallow waters that make a unique combination for the summer holidays.
