Dexa beach is only 2 km far from Vathy, the capital of Ithaca. It is situated on the right side of the port, north of the island. Dexa is one of the recipients of the "Blue Flag" for the impeccable cleanness and fine organization. The beach offers natural shaded areas for a relaxing sunbathing and is pretty unique for its blue and transparent waters ideal for both swimming and diving. The beach hosts only a few facilities and closeby there is a beach bar serving cold drinks. You don't need to carry many of your own facilities, trees provide a nice protection from the warm sun. It is one of the best swimming spots close to the town. According to Homer's "Odyssey" Dexa is the site where Odysseus stopped after returning to Ithaca from the Trojan War.
Vathi or Vathy is the main harbor of Ithaca and lies at the head of a long inlet on the East coast, four miles south of Kioni and five miles south of Frikes. It is a popular destination for yachts of all sizes during the season, as it provides a number of berthing opportunities as well as good anchorage off the town.
