Kitesurfing is a wind powered watersport, which is getting more and more popular in Greece because of the ideal wind conditions in many islands. Many kitesurfing centers, located in various beaches in Greek Islands, are offering equipment and kite surfing courses. Winds that are blowing in Lefkada Island during the summer months, make Agios Ioannis and nearby beaches ideal for kite-surfing.

Navigational Aids


Beautiful beach with pebbles and sand, crystal-clear waters. This beach is suitable for kite surfing but not appropriate for beginners because the wind is unstable.

The beach has a particularity; when the waters have pulled through, the sea is too shallow and you may need to move many meters until you reach a sufficient depth for swimming. This beach is suitable for kite surfing.

Kouremenos Beach

Very long sandy beach Kouremenos (1.5 km long) is located 21 km east of Sitia and 2 km east of the village in the bay Palekastro Grant.

Agios Ioannis is a famous, sandy beach on the west side of the island and the closest one to the town of Lefkada. There are many old windmills creating a unique landscape.

The lagoon is Elafonisos 82 km far from Chania and is one of the most famous beaches of Crete. Not affected by the wind, but as it is open to the South influenced by southern winds blowing from the Libyan Sea.

Psalidi Beach

Kalafatis Beach

Beach Kalafatis is located in the Southeast side of Mykonos, next to Agia Anna. It is the only beach in Mykonos surrounded by trees, and one of the largest on the island.

The incredibly beautiful beach resort of Mikri Vigla is located 18 kilometres away from the capital and consists in two wonderful sandy beaches separated by an impressive hill. The northern beach of Mikri Vigla is wonderful, with soft golden sand and crystalline turquoise waters and is blessed by the meltemi (north winds specific to the Cyclades) which make it an ideal place for wind/kitesurfing.

Keros is an endless beach with soft white sand, distinguished for its natural beauty. It is located on the eastern coast of Lemnos, 32 km from Myrina and 2 km from Kalliopi village.

The beach in front of the tourist resort of Theologos is situated at a distance of 22 kilometers southwestern to the town of Rhodes at the northwestern coast of the island. It is the last part of the 10- kilometers long continuous beach, which starts from Kremasti at the Northeast and ends up here.

Prasonisi is the last edge of Rhodes at the very South and is found at a distance of 95 kilometers southern to the town of Rhodes and 12 kilometers far from the inland village of Kattavia, also to the South. It is a strange place: in winter it is a small islet, but in summer you will see a small peninsula.

The island of Lefkada is famous for the perfect weather conditions for windsurfing and kite surfing. Indeed, the thermal winds that are blowing during the summer afternoons in some areas of the island make those places ideal for those water sports.

Vasiliki beach

The beach of Vasiliki is 37 kilometres south of the capital of the island.Vassiliki is fairly quiet at the start and end of the summer season, but really comes to life in July and August when it is recognised as one of the windsurfing capitals of Europe.

It is the ideal beach for kite surfing due to the strong wind. Also there are no bathers in this beach.
