This is a tropical paradise! An organized, 10 km long beach with golden sand, among the top beaches of the island. Its shallow waters are inviting and ideal for children and it is also windsurfing-friendly. The coastal road that connects Tigkaki with the town of Kos is ideal for bike rides. On the beach you will find many restaurants, taverns, beach bars, hotels and shops. Ideal for families due to its safe waters, but also for groups of friends and sports fanatics.
Navigational Aids
The small port of Mastichari is artificial. It is protected from the northwest by a curved mole, which is 270 m long.
The cove of Vathý is open to the east and looks like a deep and narrow fjord. The small homonymous village is located at the head of the cove.
The cove of Psérimos (Avlákia) is formed at the western shores of Psérimos and is open to the southwest. Its entrance is difficult to see, unless it is approached from the southwest.
Kos is the main harbor on the island. It is a large and safe harbor although it is subject to N-NE winds which can cause considerable swell within the large harbor.
Kardamaina, is a small town 7 km from Kos Island International Airport at Antimacheia, situated mid-way along the south coast of the island of Kos. It is reputedlys the most picturesque village in the island.
Port Kalymnos or, as it is locally known, Póthia is the main harbor of the island. It affords good shelter from the meltemi (the Etesians), although there are strong NW gusts across the harbor.
Near Tigkaki beach, there is the area of Alykes, one of the two main wetlands in Kos, where bird lovers will discover various intriguing species. The area is the largest breeding place of ruddy shelduck in Southern Europe.
Marina Kos is located on the outskirts of Kos town; about 15 min walk from the town center, next to Kos old harbour. Marina Kos is easily accessible, only 26Km away, through Hippocrates International Airport (IATA: KGS) by charter flights from the major European cities.
It was built around 3rd and 4th century BC. It isIt is situated next to Gymnasium and Roman baths, creating an ideal place for a visit, as it concentrates many important places to one point.
Lake Psalidi is near Kos town and is a great destination for bird-watching, providing birds such as rare ducks and flamingoes. Some of the species, which could be found there, especially in the autumn, include Reddy Shelduck, Slender-billed Curlew, Long-legged Buzzard and Lesser Kestrel.
The Antimachia Traditional House is located at the center of Antimachia village and depicts the local architecture of the 20th century. It is also called ‘The Stone House’ since it was built with stones.
The Archaeological museum of Kos is located at Eleftherias square, in a neoclassical building, designed in 1935. Excavations brought to light findings by the beginning of the century, mainly from the archaeological site of the Market and also from monuments, such as, the Altar of Dionisos, the Odeon and the Roman Residence.
The Knight Castle was built in 14th century on the ruins of an oldest fortress. The castle has two rounds of walls and it used to be surrounded by water and connected to the mainland by a bridge.
Kardamena is the best destination in Kos for clubbing. Nightlife starts in Bar Street and the clubs that are spread throughout the village.
The tourist shops of Ifestou street are open every day until late in the evening. Along this cute pedestrian street are jeweleries, silverware, pottery shops, textiles and various souvenirs shops, as well as numerous cafes and bars.
Taverna Manola offers fresh grilled fish from the fisheries in Pserimos harbor. In addition to the excellent food and low prices, the people will make you feel at home.
The beach Kasonia is the closest one to Pothia and is located on the road towards the beach Therma, behind the harbor. It is a long sandy beach, with a few trees on its coast that provide natural shade to bathers.
Kardamena is a very well known and popular beach with various accommodation and leisure options. It's a lovely sandy coast, over 3 kilometers long and it is organized.
The Beach Psalidi is about 3.5 km from Kos town, on the East side all the way from Kos Marine to Agio Foka.
Mastihari is the second port of the island. However, it's also a truly exotic beach with white sand and turquoise blue waters.
The endless sandy beach of Marmari is located 20 km southwest of Kos town and 5 km from Pyli. At this beautiful beach one can enjoy the various facilities like sunbeds, umbrellas and watersports facilities.
The beach Akti (which literally means 'coast') is on the east side of Kalymnos. You can get there by car, along the road which connects Pothia to Vathys.
The long sandy beach in Lambi is situated on the western outskirts of Kos Town. It is a popular, well organized beach that offers all kinds of facilities to tourists during the summer months.
The beach of Gefyra is next to Therma and is one of the main beaches of Pothia. It is a small but beautiful beach with pebbles, rocks and vegetation.
Troulos beach is northeast from Mastichari and it has been awarded with Blue Flag. It is suitable for windsurf and kite surf.
If you are in Kos, then you should definitely experience its natural spa created by hot springs gushing in a small natural lake in front of Thermes beach. The refreshing sea water enters from one side, while the hot water is bubbling.
