Vessels should not anchor close to the bay’s shores, as the waters are not deep. They need to be ready to sail immediately in case the weather changes. Its bottom consists of sand, mud and seaweeds.

The Folklore Museum is 40 km away from the town of Kos, in Kefalos village. It displays a big collection of agricultural tools and objects used throughout the centuries as well asa lot of traditional artifacts such as embroideries, intricate and stunning woven tapestries and silks.
The road west out of Pothia leads to the village of Vothini then down to the inlet at Vlychadia where there are two pleasant bays each side of the small harbour, one a gentle curve of shaded sand the other a small strip of clean pebbles. Good taverns back both beaches and regular excursion leave Vlychadia for the cave at Kefala just along the coast south-west of Vylchadia.
Once the island’s fishing village, it is now rapidly developing as a resort, while still retaining its peace and quiet. It is the port and sea outlet of Emporeios, with a population of around 150 during the winter, a number that rises considerably during the summer.
