Emporeios Anchorage
Exploring Kalymnos Sailing Holidays area
Emporeios is a bay on the NW side of the island protected by the small island of Kalavros. While the village is attractive, the water is murky due to several fish-farms. The cove is well protected from the meltemi but the bottom is mud and sand with thick weed and provides uncertain holding. Use one of the ten orange buoys belonging to the restaurants. Obviously, if availing yourself of a buoy, you should favor the tavern to which it belongs with your custom. The taverns serve good fish. Alternatively, anchor in the small cove to the SW of the village, where there is room for 3/4 yachts to swing to their anchors. Anchor in 6-7 meters off the beach, where the holding is good in sand. Shelter here is good from all directions except east.
Navigational Aids
Café Stavedo is located on Massouri beach. It is ideal for the hot days, because it is located on the beach, providing nice coffee and refreshments along with quick snacks.
Massouri, the most popular beach in Kalymnos and one of the best on the island, is situated 9 km away from Pothia. The wide sandy beach, the crystal clear waters and the beautiful view towards Telendos justify the above mentioned title.
Kalamies beach is located just before Emborios village. In there, a different feel occurs, with an ambiance that will take you a little back in time, as there are still tavern tables on the pebbles, palm leafs function as umbrellas and smiling people serve you their best delicacies.
Beach Paleonissos is on the east coast of Kalymnos, near Emporeios. You will arrive there either by boat or after taking the new road from Skalia to Paleonissos .
