Panagia Arkoudiotissa Cave or Arkoudospilios (Bear Cave) is located about 2 kilometers north of famous Gouverneto Monastery. The cave is famous for a stalagmite that looks like a crouching bear, and hence the name of the cave Arkoudospilios. According to local legend, a bear lived in the cave and drank the water dripping from the stalactites.
The monks, who were suffering from thirst, prayed to the Virgin for helping them. The Virgin heard their prayers and turned the bear into stone In the cave, there is a little church dedicated to the Presentation of Christ in the Temple.

50 km south of Chania is the mountain village of Askyfou, Sfakia. There is an interesting war museum there, created by a local man, who was travelling all over Crete to collect every vestige of the battle, so as to keep alive the glorious memory of Cretan war history.
Arkadiou Street, or Sabbionara, was during Venetian era but also today one of the most important streets of the urban fabric of the city. Lying in the heart of modern Rethymnon, it combines the oriental features of the Turkish period with Renaissance-style Venetian architecture.
Located on the southern coast of Crete, about 3 kilometers east of Agia Roumeli (1 to 1.30 hours walking) and 6 km west of Loutro (about 2-3 hours) and is a large pebbled beach, and several isolated few people, mainly because of the difficulty of access, with deep clear water.
Walking the beach Vertigo towards Loutro and the footpath E4 will pass the Chapel of the Holy Cross and of course will start next to several small bays which dominate the pebble, sand and rock. There is no organization, and should arrange for all necessary.
Moving from Paleochora to the campsite a sign pointing towards the beach Gialiskari. After a short ride on a dirt road you will reach the deserted beach, or rather on two beaches, and at this point the land goes into the sea creating a small peninsula.
Episkopis beach is located 12 km west of Rethymno and is a great sandy beach, several kilometers long that is affected by the wind. There are parts of the beach that are organized and have cafes, there are large chunks of the beach that are not organized where you can put your towel.
The Missiria is actually a suburb of Rethymno, within walking distance from the city center, just 3 km to the east and on the long sandy beach. Access from Rethymnon is very easy with regular and frequent bus, taxi and rented or private cars and motorcycles.
