The entrance of the small port of Chania is only 10 meters wide and is difficult to see unless you are very close. It is protected by a windward curved mole extending SE for about 40 m and by a leeward mole extending SW for 30 m. At their heads temporary lights operate, green on the port side and red on the starboard side of incoming vessels. The shores of the port are quayed.
