Sailing Holidays in Orbetello

Orbetello stands on a tongue of land extending SW into Stagno di Orbetello, a shallow lagoon contained by Tombolo della Giannella to the NW and Tombolo di Feniglia to the SE. Canale di Orbetello leads through Tombolo della Giannella, close N of Promontorio Argentario, then 2 miles ENE to Orbetello. The channel is used primarily to transport phosphates to a factory at Orbetello and export fertiliser. A swing bridge spans the channel close inside the entrance. A low road bridge also spans the canal limiting access to vessels with a maximum masthead height of 3 m. Anchorage can be obtained in depths of 10 m off the canal entrance.
