Isole Tremiti consists of a group of four islands situated about 12 miles offshore of the N coast of Promontorio del Gargano. Compared with the mainland all the islands are relatively low. Their coasts, particularly on the N sides, are steep and inaccessible, and contain a number of caves, entry to which is prohibited by all craft. Fishing is occasionally conducted in the vicinity of the islands, sometimes at night with flares.
