Levanto is an ancient town, fronted by a beach and surrounded by an amphitheatre of hills. Anchorage can be obtained within the bay in depths of 5. 5 to 9. 0 m, between 180 and 460 m from the shore. With local knowledge anchorage can be obtained off the town, taking care to avoid Secca della Peria, a rocky shoal with a least depth of 1 m over it, 0. 7 mile SE of Punta Levanto (44°10′5N, 9°35′0E). There are depths of 10. 0 to 16. 5 m between the shoal and the coast. Small vessels can obtain temporary anchorage in line with a dark rocky point, on which stands a two storeyed house, projecting NW from the S extremity of the beach fronting the town.
