Reggio di Calabria, is situated on the E side of the Stretto di Messina. The town was totally destroyed by an earthquake in 1908 and has been completely rebuilt. When seen from the N the town appears as a multi coloured row of two-storied houses. The port is situated between Torrente Montevergine in the N close to the harbour entrance, and Torrente Annunziata, which flows through the town, and enters the sea just S of the harbour.
