Sailing Holidays in Geological Museum of Naxos

The Geological Museum of Naxos is located in Apeiranthos, a beautiful village 30 km away from Hora. It was founded in 1964 and operated for only 4 years. During the dictatorship, it was closed and it reopened in 1987.

The Geological Museum of Apeiranthos exposes rocks of the entire island, as the famous dark marble of Naxos. The Museum also exhibits stones from other Cycladic islands, such as, Milos and Santorini. Visitors can admire sharp obsidian blades from Milos and volcanic rocks from Thira and even from Mount Etna and Mount Vesuvius.

The most significant exhibits are small meteorites pieces from the distant Brazil and the bones of the dwarf elephant that used to live on the island of Naxos until almost 70,000 years ago.
