Otok Vis (43°02′N 16°10′E) is the most W of the major South Dalmatian Islands and with islets and rocks extending a further 15 miles W is a focal point in the approaches to the channels in the South Dalmatian Islands, and for the routes from the entrance of the Adriatic Sea to destinations on the central part of the E coast of the Adriatic Sea. There are passages and routes on all sides of the island.
